Once upon a time, my dear grandchild, there existed a galaxy so divided, that war and conflict had become the norm. Pacifia, it was called, and it was a place where violence and division were rampant. The great civilizations of the galaxy, like Paxamia, Neutria, and Bellator, were unable to unite and agree on anything for long enough to stop the chaos. Arms dealers reaped profits from the constant turmoil, spreading misinformation and propaganda to fuel the fire of violence.
But then, a new player emerged on the scene: Astromeca. They were a trade entity that sold weapons to anyone who needed them, and they quickly became the most profitable trade entity in the galaxy. Astromeca's arms strategy department became a huge success, teaching nations how to control their masses before conflict even began. They peddled propaganda so quickly and effectively that they could rewrite public opinion in a matter of days. Their algorithms and predictive models worked almost every time, and they were able to convince even the most influential leaders to back their causes.
However, after more than two decades of establishing peace and uniformity, Astromeca's profits began to decline. They reversed their propaganda engine, with the intent to perpetuate conflict and thus maintain profitability. Yet the galaxy became too saturated with division, and warring factions were too many and too poor to control profits from. The perpetuated division was too ingrained to reverse, and unification was needed to reverse the effect.
Astromeca's ownership became concerned with the human condition for the first time in its history. They spent the last of their dying resources on the Kill Switch initiative, an interplanetary biotech virus that contained an anti-conflict agent. The virus spread rapidly across Pacifia and within a fortnight, violence had ceased, and all that remained were bitter humans who had to settle their differences in other ways.
However, because of the virus: classism, manipulation, and emotional subjugation reigned instead of death, violence, and war. Pacifia's industries began to flourish once more, but her products were broken, her food was filled with toxins, and her societies were over-taxed and over-worked. Misery perpetuated itself throughout the galaxy, and despair abounded. The true winners were only those who could find joy in passing moments, and who could look at the smokestacks and corporate maze of skyscrapers as a thing of beauty.
In the end, my dear grandchild, we learn that greed can consume even the most powerful entities and that true heroes are those who accept chaos and find joy in each passing moment.
